American Structural metals, Inc.
"TO PROVIDE QUALITY BUILDING MATERIALS AND RELATED SERVICES WHICH SERVICE BOTH PRIVATE AND PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE AND TO FABRICATE ALL STRUCTURAL STEEL PRODUCTS TO THE HIGHEST QUALITY STANDARDS OF THE INDUSTRY"
American Structural Metals, Inc. is a full service metal fabrication company where girders, trusses, joists & decking are fabricated with professional dedication & precision. Starting in a small office and manufacturing facility, this progressive company and it's experienced management are now housed in 10,000 square feet of office space and 72,000 square feet of manufacturing space. American Structural Metals, Inc. is centrally located in Somerset, Wisconsin, just a short drive across the river from Minneapolis-St. Paul. We are proud of the steel work we've done in 35 states and 3 countries from our Midwest location.
With two buildings totaling nearly 120,000 square feet and over 20 acres of yard space , American Structural Metals has the capacity to house a large inventory of raw materials to keep production flow at a maximum. Our bay doors are 20 feet wide which allows us to accommodate trusses of all sizes. We cut, cope, punch drill, camber and flange girders in a single line using specially designed five-axis CNC flame cutting equipment. Our plant has two fully automated 350 foot structural beam lines and can produce a finished beam every 6 minutes.
Our high performance coating line allows us to blast, coat and cure your project with finishes that can withstand harsh elements. We can provide any surface prep from SSPC-SP1 thru SSPC-SP10 and provide coatings from standard primers to sophisticated paint systems such as zincs, expoxies, urethanes or multi-coat systems to eliminate costly field painting. We do it all under a safe, temperature-controlled and dust-proof environment. Our painting bay is 60' x 300' and includes a blast booth 24'x60', paint booth #1 24'x40 & paint booth #2 18'x40' all located in an enclosed, temperature controlled & dust proof environment.
Highly experienced detailers & draftsmen at American Structural Metals have top of the line work stations and use the latest version of SDS/2, an extensive software program specializing in 3D automation. This program has great flexibility when importing and exporting files of many different formats allowing us to conform to our customer's needs.
No job is too big or too small for American Structural Metals, but we prefer the tough ones.

AISC quality Certification
American Institute of Steel Construction ~ AISC quality certification confirms our ability to perform to the highest standards in the industry. American Structural Metals is AISC quality certified for:
- Conventional Steel Building Structures
- Complex Steel Building Structures
*AISC Quality Certification sets a standard for the steel industry. Companies that are AISC certified have been through a rigorous initial evaluation, and are subject to yearly reviews. AISC's independent auditing company confirms that companies have the personnel, knowledge, organization, equipment, experience, capability, procedures, and commitment to produce the required quality of work for a given category, whether they are a fabricating plant, erector or metal building company.
The program confirms that an individual company has the capability of performing the desired level of work. The program does not look at specific projects; rather, the highly detailed checklist focuses on general management, engineering and drafting, procurement, operations and quality control. Auditors spot check records, interview workers and observe work and conditions in facilities to evaluate shops against quality criteria.
Building QMS Certification (BU)
This program’s governing document is the Certification Standard for Steel Building Structures and describes certification requirements for building fabricators regardless of project size and complexity. Certification includes all functions of providing Structural Steel fabrication from receipt of contract through final delivery. AISC believes there is a basic level of quality all fabricators must maintain regardless of the facility’s size or capacity.
Sophisticated Paint Endorsement (SPE) - Enclosed
This endorsement’s governing document is the Standard for Shop Application of Complex Protective Coating Systems, which was developed as a joint effort with Society for Protective Coatings - SSPC to streamline the criteria for both the marketplace and industry. The program evaluates the qualifications of structural steel fabricators and manufacturers who apply sophisticated or industrial protective coatings, such as zincs, expoxies, urethanes, or multi-coat systems in their paint shops following fabrication. There are three categories. P1-Sophisticated Paint Endorsement-Enclosed, P2-Sophisticated Paint Endorsement-Covered, and P3-Sophisticated Paint Endorsement-Outside. The program is optional for all AISC Certified fabricator participants.
